Reflection Statement:

These sculptures visually communicate the filth and harshness of Gregors environment that accumulates after he turns into a bug. While exploring materials I focused on paper pulp as a way to create texture.  I felt that my initial attempts at incorporating the fretwork designs into the headboard were not producing the results that I wanted on their own, so I shifted to layering them on top of a paper pulp structure. This work exposed the idea of using adhesives already present in paper and as a result I would like to learn more about the paper making process. I would like to continue exploring paper pulp and how it can be combined with other techniques. This piece allowed me to explore scale and color to convey the experience I had while reading.
